Touring Director, Heather Carter
I’m Heather, and I recently took over as the SCC’s Director of Touring. I’m really looking forward to getting outside and exploring the area all around Sault Ste. Marie on my bicycle, and I hope that some of you will join me!
I moved here from North York in 2016 for work and I immediately fell in love with the city. I’ve always been an outdoorsy type and there’s just so much to do outside here! From Hiawatha right in our back yard, to Lake Superior Provincial Park just up the highway, adventure lurks around every corner.
I haven’t been riding my whole life, like some of you have. I’m fact, I only bought my first mountain bike after moving here! After riding with a friend at Hiawatha I was hooked and now that’s the best place to find me in my free time, usually either riding or running the trails.
These days I work as a bike mechanic at Algoma Bicycle, and I love sharing my enthusiasm for cycling with anyone and everyone who walks through our doors. I decided to get more involved with the SCC so I can keep learning, teaching, and sharing my passion for bikes and the outdoors with like-minded folks. The local cycling community was incredibly welcoming to me as a newbie, and I really just want to pay that forward. Feel free to say hello at the shop or the trailhead!
