• I grew up on Vancouver Island, Inuvik, NWT, and Saskatchewan.
• I “took a year off before going to university” and moved to the Rockies, eventually settling in the obsessively athletic town of Canmore, Alberta. I assimilated into the lifestyle of skiing, running, climbing, and hiking. I bought my first mountain bike in 1993. From there, I bought a touring road bike and a nicer mountain bike, a nicer road bike and began spending most of my disposable income on my bikes.
• Despite working at a mountain biking facility, and living about 200m from another trail system, I never really “got” mountain biking and instead focused on road riding, eventually getting involved in summer and winter triathlons.
• I visited some family in Sault Ste Marie in September 2008 and was shocked at the fall colours and intrigued by the recreational opportunities.
• After turning 40 and battling with constant injuries, I decided to move to Sault Ste. Marie and try something different. I was checking social media one evening and saw the position of club secretary available. I thought it would be a great opportunity to meet some new people.
• I don’t have a gravel bike yet, but I am completely smitten by the possibilities in the area.
