Are they ready??

Are your kids hounding you to ride the trails? Are they surpassing your ability to keep up? Are they keen to explore new trails and improve their skills? Kids Shredding Singletrack (KSS) is returning to meet their needs!

The focus of this program is to introduce kids aged 8 to 16 to fun and safe mountain biking. The environment will be non-competitive and kids won’t be pressured to try any skill outside their comfort zone.

Each night will start with a brief discussion and demonstration of a skill or technique, then the group will ride the Hiawatha single track trails and other areas of the city (e.g., pump track), stopping at features where they can practice and develop the featured skill. The focus will be on fun, but there will also be some learning going on!

Volunteers

Our program would not exist without our amazing volunteers! Thank you to everyone who donates their time to make KSS happen. The more volunteers we have, the more kids we can open the program to.

We welcome parent volunteers who are familiar with the trails. Depending on your skill level, you might be asked to perform a “sweeper” role, trailing one of the groups and assisting the instructor/leader as needed or leading a group. We also look for support at our registration table and directing kids/parents where to go.

*Children of parents whom are volunteering will be ensured spots in the program but must still register.

Spring Session Details

Spring sessions will take place Monday nights starting at 6:30 pm sharp. DATES: May 6 to June 17, 2024 (excluding Victoria Day). Six sessions.

Rides will take place at Hiawatha Highlands, 780 Landslide Rd and we meet in the Kinsmen Park Ball Field area.

Rides will be approximately 90 minutes, depending on conditions (muddy trails make you ride slower, clouds of mosquitos make you ride faster!) and skill level of participants. Participants will be grouped according to skill level.

** For the Fall program, all riders must have a bar or helmet light as it gets dark early.
