Thanks to everyone who made this a reality!! Great work!!

What a storm!

Hey friends! What a storm last night eh!? If you’re heading out for a ride at Hiawatha or anywhere really, PLEASE be very careful as there may be new washouts and hazards due to the extreme rain overnight. Some bridges have been affected. We haven’t been out to assess but have seen pictures and heard from others that some damage is out there. Please let us know if you find anything that should be addressed! Stay safe and have fun out there!!

Maintenance day reminder – May 11th

The white blanket of snow is quickly being pulled back from our trails revealing the dirt and rocks that we all love. Come on out on Saturday to help get the trails and shape for a new season. We will be gathering at Kinsmen Park at 9:00 a.m. (behind the ice cream shop). (You can come earlier or later and I will try to match you up with some work if you want to contact me beforehand).

What to bring?

Prescription: leaf blow, rake, refresh in-slope turn.
  • Rakes,
  • pruning shears,
  • gas powered, backpack blowers (looking to have four – six blowers operating, we have 31 km to do!)
  • shovels,
  • pruning saws
  • Work gloves
  • Water, snacks

We will be out and about across the trails so you can bring your bike or choose to walk.

If you have any pressure treated fence boards that you are not using, we have a couple of feature repairs to do. I will need a couple of people to have Robertson screwdrivers (for sign replacements and feature work) hammers and vise grips (for removal of rusted fasteners).

Come on out for an hour, 3 hours or 6 hours! Learn about trail maintenance techniques and the many exciting trail related happenings in the Sault.

If you have questions…

Trail update

Trail inspections are done! Lots of dirt to be found 🙂 but also more snow than we would like :-).

If you are riding, ride with caution there are trees and brush still to be removed. Maintenance day is happening on Saturday May 11th. Come on out and support our trails. If you can’t make it on Saturday there are jobs that can be done on your own time, just contact me (

Trail Update

Trail Maintenance Day – Saturday May 11, 2019

Bike loaded up for trail maintenance activities

The snow is still in the woods, but we’re already planning and looking forward to another fabulous riding season, with lots of exciting developments. To prepare the trails for the season we will be having a spring trail maintenance day on May 11th.

Saturday May 11, 2019 from 9 until “the energy runs out, or the work is done!”.

No previous trail work experience is required to attend and you don’t even have to be a member of the Sault Cycling Club (but we encourage joining for all of the benefits you receive!).  We welcome all help!

Come out and learn the basics of trail maintenance and play a part in getting our trails ready for another season.

I’m looking for volunteers to help orchestrate this event.  Specifically, I’m looking for:

  1. 2-6 crew leaders to lead crews on the day of the event (each group will be provided with maps/directions for specific maintenance tasks)
  2. people with backpack leaf blowers
  3. 1 person willing to coordinate refreshments on the day of the event

Mark May 11 on your calendars and come on out for a fun spring day in the woods, on your favorite trails!

If you can’t make the 11th but are willing to help out, we can match you up with maintenance tasks that can be done on your own schedule. Contact Peter to arrange.
