First Gravel Ride of 2019 – Monday Apr 29

I will be hosting two gravel rides each month through this season. These will be no-drop social rides because they can tend to get pretty exploratory sometimes.

For each ride, I’ll publish a rough outline of where we’re headed, but we may well decide “hey, that looks interesting over there!” so bring your sense of adventure. Also, bring lights. You never know how long we’ll be out!

A gravel or cyclocross bike is advised, but we’re an inviting crowd. If you can keep up on a mountain bike or have the handling skills to tackle our planned route on a road bike, then come on out and have fun with us!

Be sure to purchase your membership before the ride. I will not be accepting cash or cheques at the start location this year since we can now purchase memberships online as well as in any of the bike shops.

This week, we’ll start at 6:45pm at the R.M. Moore school at the corner of Base Line and Carpin Beach Rd where we’ll head up to explore Creek Rd (and hopefully make it as far as the beaver pond) before turning around and doing the same on Prince Lake Rd. If time allows, I’d love to check out Marshall Dr as well.

Sprockids Registration Opens April 14th

Set your alarm: Registration for Sault Cycling Club’s Sprockids Program will open online at 8 PM on Sunday, April 14, 2019 on Zone4. Link provided below. First come, first served.

The spring 2019 Sprockids course encourages cyclists aged 5 to 13 (currently in SK to Grade 7) to experience success in a group setting by learning four skill areas of cycling safety, etiquette, riding skills, and bicycle maintenance. Sprockids is suitable for cyclists at any riding skill level on a two-wheeled bicycle (no training wheels or balance bikes).

Interested in signing up for Sprockids? Review the SCC Sprockids Spring 2019 Technical Package to ensure this program is suitable for your child and family and the Program Details to see the riding dates and locations, Each rider must obtain a Sault Cycling Club membership, review the Code of Ethics, undergo a bike inspection, wear a properly fitted helmet, and agree to the terms in the photography and athlete waivers. This is a group-based activity with volunteer coaches; we are unable to provide one-on-one supervision, specific medical support, or guarantee an allergen-free environment.

Each rider’s registration fee includes a t-shirt (see Program Details for shirt sizes) and a coupon to pick up a youth bug jacket from Joe’s Sports and Surplus (40 Queen St. East). These items will be handed out at the first session. A big thanks to Joe’s Sports and Surplus for supporting our program by donating bug jackets!

Sprockids

The Sault Cycling Club is happy to present another season of the Sprockids mountain bike riding course for spring 2019. This 6-week program, for cyclists aged 5 to 13 years old, will run May 14 – June 18, on Tuesday evenings from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

The program cost is $60, in addition to a current Sault Cycling Club Membership. All riders receive a t-shirt, an end of season ice cream with their team and a coupon for Joe’s Sports & Surplus for a youth sized bug shirt.

Sprockids offers young cyclists the opportunity to experience success and build self-esteem by discovering and building upon their potential. The multi-tiered program teaches four skill areas for cycling – safety, etiquette, riding skills and bicycle maintenance. As participants progress in all areas at their own pace, gain experience in goal setting, problem solving and decision making. Sprockids is suitable for cyclists at any riding skill level on a two-wheeled bicycle (no training wheels or balance bikes).

With Sprockids, no one sits on the bench. Each group has at least one certified Sprockids coach, supported by additional volunteers. These leaders have the skills and passion to instruct and evaluate, while modeling cycling and learning as lifelong activities. Through playing and riding, Sprockids promotes respect for others, empathy, appreciation and responsibility for the environment. To learn more about Sprockids, visit www.sprockids.com.

Registration information is coming soon. Watch this space for details, and email any questions to sccsprockids@gmail.com.

Looking forward to a fun season of biking!
