Road Ride July 4 – 7pm – Echo Bay

This week will be our second sprint/regroup session in Echo Bay.  For the A and B groups, we’ll have two climbing segments and a flat segment with a short little kick up where a punchy climber might be able to get away.

Reminder: Rides are now starting at Echo Bay Central Public School at 7:00pm.  Map: Google.

A and B groups: This format is fun for riders of varying speeds, so we’re mixing the two groups this week.  Everyone will struggle and most will get dropped on one segment or more, but never for more than 10min before we regroup and ride social to the next segment.  Format reminder: Riders are expected to light it up on the segments, and some riders will absolutely get dropped.  At the end of the segment, everyone will stop or soft-pedal until the entire group is back together before riding at an easy social pace (no pushing it at all, everyone should feel comfortable) to the next segment.

If you’re normally a B-group rider, you will get dropped on the sprints.  Use them as an opportunity to push yourself or see how long you can hang on to the back of the lead group and you’ll get a solid interval workout.  It’s a great way to get faster.  Don’t worry about holding anyone up in a sprint/regroup format since you can bet the fast riders will need a break at the end of the segment!

The route is about 40km out up Hwy 638 to Cemetery Rd, down to Bar River Rd and across to Government Rd.  We’ll head south and tackle Laird Hill before crossing the highway on Pumpkin Point Rd and riding back beside the airstrip on Lakeview Rd.  We’ll cross the highway on Bar River Rd and head back up Government Rd to return to our vehicles.  Map: Google.

Segment 1 (climb) – Hwy 638 climb.
Start: The first sign for Echo Lake Rd (with a left-turn symbol on it).
End: Black mailbox on the right near the top of the hill (10151 in white paint on it).

Segment 2 (climb) – Laird Hill.
Start: Driveway to the church between the bridge and the base of the hill.
End: Green Canada Post box at the fork in the road (way up the false flat).
Note: This is segment crosses Lake George Rd E.  Watch out for other vehicles.  If anyone has to stop at this intersection, the segment will neutralize and resume when everyone regroups.

Segment 3 (flat) – Government Rd heading north.
Start: Intersection with Bar River Rd & Government Rd
End: Stop Sign Ahead sign before Watson Rd

C group: This will be a 26km social, no-drop ride from Echo Bay Central Public School following the same start up Hwy 638, down Cemetery Rd, and across Bar River Rd.  The group will detour south at Lapish Rd, turn right on Lake George Rd then Government Rd before following the A & B route again back to the school.  Map: Google.

If you’re not sure which group you should ride with, we have a breakdown at the end of the formats page based on the pace or power that you normally ride at.
